Fix the economy!

There is all this talk about how to fix the economy which is in total decline at this time. Noboby is doing anything about it. Sure, there are going to be "stimulus checks" to get people to put money back into the economy, but it will not help. Plus, we have to claim it as income next year and pay taxes on it-Bush will be gone so he does not care what you think of him then.
Here are my suggestions to get the economy up and running.

1-Cap gas prices at $2.50/gallon & take away the tax credits for the oil companies. The way to really help the economy is to takethe load off the average American. In this case, oil & gas prices are causing people to stay home and not spend. The government regulates the natural gas & electric companies-why not the Big Oil companies as well?

2-Cap credit card interest rates at 18%. If you or I were on the street lending money to people and then charging upwards of 30-40% interest, it would be loan-sharking. If the banks do it, it is just business. By capping these rates, people could actually afford to pay down their debts and free up cash to spend on the economy.

3-Cap adjustable rate mortgages at 12%. The banks still make a nice profit (at least $360,000 on a $100,000 house over a 30 year mortgage) and it won't cause most homeowners to forfeit their homes for foreclosure. Hold banks accountable for investment failures. If banks invest and lose money, they shoild not be bailed out by the U.S. government, but should be closed. Simple, insure the banks, they lose money, the government repays the bank depositors their money and then closes the doors on that bank.

4-Cap health insurance and drug rates. If you ask most people what their biggest bills are, they will say their mortgage, their credit cards, health care & gas prices. It is outrageous what helath care providers charge and then refuse to pay for. No wonder people are going to other countries for surgeries and treatments as well as turning to Canada for drugs. Who can afford it here. There needs to be some type of across the board caps for insurance and for drug profits until a national health care system is obtained.

5-Revamp the politicians packages. If you ask the average American what they are most concerned about, they will usually tell you mortgages, credit cards, health care, and gas for their cars. If you ask the average politician what the average American is concerned about, they will tell Iraq and the war on terror. We need to bring them down to earth and let them feel what the average American feels every day. Therefore, I propose and end to taxpayers dollars being spent on housing and food, healthcare, and gas for any politician. Let them pay for their own like we do and then they will feel the pinches that we feel. No more traveling anywhere and everywhere they feel like it if they have to pay for the gas. The health care system would get overhauled in a minute if they had to pay for their own, and the mortgage companies and banks would be capped probably at lower rates than I propsed if they were paying the bills.

6-I also propose a cap on campaign money and that it will all be provided by the federal government with no donations allowed by any private or public persons. This would keep everyone on the same level and would ensure that noone is beholding to a special interest group. Then the politicians can concentrate on doing their jobs instead of raising money for the next election. It will also teach them to be frugal with the money they have and to spend it wisely on ads & campaigning and will take some of the mudslinging out of the campaign.

All these things are common sense which means the government will never take these under consideration, mostly because their pockets are being lined very well by the same groups I propose we cap.
